What size gutter do you need for a tile or metal roof?
Usually the 7-inch. On clay tile and metal roofs the roofing material hangs out past the face of the roof edge, so water leaves the roof further out and a standard 5-inch or 6-inch gutter never catches it. The 7-inch is wider and sits under that overhang.

Why a standard gutter misses the water
On a standard roof the roofing ends at the fascia and the water rolls off right there. That is what a 5-inch or 6-inch gutter is built for, and it works.
Clay tile, ceramic tile and metal panel roofs are different. The material projects past that edge. The water launches from further out and lands past the back of a standard gutter, or past the gutter entirely.
What the homeowner sees is water running behind the gutter, or a line of water hitting the ground even though there is a gutter right there. That is not a defective gutter and it is not a bad install. It is the wrong width for that roof.

What does not change
Only the width of the gutter changes. The downspouts, the hangers and the installation method are the same as any other job.
A 7-inch gutter does not need a bigger downspout.
We make the 7-inch in aluminum only. We do not offer a 7-inch copper gutter.
How the 7-inch is installed
- We measure the roof edge and overhang first. The gutter must sit far enough out to catch the water but not so far that it touches the roof material.
- We fabricate the 7-inch seamless aluminum on site, in one continuous piece for each run.
- Hangers are spaced every 24 to 36 inches and fastened to the fascia or sub-fascia. The number of hangers goes up on long runs and high-wind areas.
- The gutter is hung with a slight pitch toward the downspout outlets so water drains completely.
- We cut the outlet holes, install the downspouts, and seal every end cap, corner and miter.
- We run water through the gutter and check the flow at each downspout before we leave.
How the 7-inch gets priced
The 7-inch is quoted per project, after we look at the roof. The overhang and the run length decide the work, so we do not put a per-foot number on it before we see it.
Our standard seamless aluminum starts at $7 per linear foot installed. The 7-inch is quoted separately.
