The panel is roll-formed painted aluminum, not mesh. It's perforated in a drop pattern: raindrop-shaped openings that break surface tension and pull water through faster than the round holes on most perforated guards. Rain runs down the shingle, crosses the panel and drops into the gutter. Leaves, twigs and Spanish moss stay on top and blow off. The profile sits shallow on purpose so debris doesn't pile up on it, and the front lip rests on the edge of the gutter with no pilot holes to seep water and streak the face.
